Memory senior
The topic of musical memory has accompanied the Salon Krenek's music education program for some time now. Various workshops with the title 'Memory' have been created, taking inspiration from Ernst Krenek’s acoustic memories, which he described in several passages of his memoirs, and also his preoccupation with folk songs, to which he refers in some of his works. (Also read the article ‘Memory - Presentation of the workshop on acoustic memories’.)
From March to June 2024, dancer Katharina Weinhuber and music educator Veronika Großberger visited the care home in Unterkritzendorf to talk to clients about their acoustic and musical memories. In many international studies, music has been shown to have positive, supportive effects, particularly when working with people suffering from dementia.
The participants were asked to bring along songs, texts, poems and rhymes from their childhood and together, this treasure of memories was brought up, rediscovered, sung and supported with movements. With the help of simple instruments, they learnt new songs and searched for acoustic fragments of their childhood.
Educators: Veronika Großberger and Katharina Weinhuber
