Tricks and Trifles, Seven pieces for orchestra and more
The Deutsche Staatsphilharmonie Rheinland-Pfalz under the direction of Karl-Heinz Steffens has made a recording of orchestral works by Ernst Krenek. The CD is to be released in November on the Capriccio label. Also to be heard is a first recording of the work Tricks and Trifles: Twenty-two Variations and Fugue over a motive by Virginia Seay, op.101. Ernst Krenek originally wrote this work for piano and gave it the title 'Hurricane Variations' in remembrance of the hurricane that hit New York City on 14 September 1944. The music was newly set by the Ernst Krenek Institute and placed at the disposal of the Deutsche Staatsphilharmonie.
