Ballads Forever

Event

From the epic songs of Homer to the ballad of Mackie Messer, and beyond both of these historical landmarks, storytelling accompanied by music has fulfilled a deeply human need for thousands of years.

Taking the cue from Ernst Krenek's ‘Italian Ballads’, living composers continue along this path in our concert: the broad spectrum of texts ranges from nursery rhymes and Carinthian folk ballads to poetry by Joseph von Eichendorff, Hugo von Hofmannsthal, James Joyce and Jonathan Perry. The interpretative and intensifying tones are created by Robert J. Crow, Philipp Manuel Gutmann, Peter Barcaba, Leopold Brauneiss, Hubert Pöll and Wolfram Wagner.

This will be performed by the up-and-coming young singer Judith Sauer, accompanied by the internationally renowned Lower Austrian pianist, organist and artistic director of the Melk Abbey Summer Concerts, Ines Schüttengruber. The Donautheater, a well-known theatre company in Krems, and the students of Musikschule Krems Anna Dorn, Felix Dorn and Anna Ecker will provide recitation and reading.
