Artist in Residence: Agnė Matulevičiūtė in Krems
In June the Lithuanian mixed-media artist Agnė Matulevičiūtė will be working with Krenek’s Buchla synthesizer in the Ernst Krenek Forum. Agnė Matulevičiūtė studied photography and media arts as well as composition in Vilnius, and made a name for herself especially as a composer for film and theater projects. In recent years, above all the concept of dualism and the fusion of opposites have become the focus of her artistic work.
Her symphony “The Refugee Orchestra” for muezzin, piano, and symphony orchestra, composed in 2017, was premiered by the Lithuanian National Philharmonic Society.
During her sojourn, she will work on her album “SYNTHesis” in which she will concentrate on electronic music, but also on art-music and folk-music traditions. The Buchla synthesizer is to play an important role in it.
