Jeff Weston receives commission “Ernst” 2017

For the fourth time the Ernst Krenek Institute commissions a new composition as part of the program “ernst” in cooperation with impuls . International Ensemble and Composers Academy for Contemporary Music taking place in Graz (Austria) every two years, and Klangforum Wien.

The American Jeff Weston was chosen among the participants of this year’s Composers Academy. Weston will stay at the Ernst Krenek Institute in Krems (Austria) for a three-week scholarship in autumn 2017. His new chamber music piece is planned to be premiered in 2018 by Klangforum Wien.

Jeff Weston was born in 1986 in Iowa and has studied composition at Luther College (BA) and Bowling Green State University (MM). Weston is currently a Ph.D. candidate in Music Composition and Theory at the University of Pittsburgh where he has earned a Ph.D. certificate in Cultural Studies with an emphasis in Sound Studies. Utilizing a non-extravagance of sound, his music is focused upon task and the reoccurring.

Congratulations to Jeff Weston! We’re looking forward to his stay in Krems!
